Laravel Live Japan 2026の初日に参加してきました。
2日間開催されますが、私は初日のみの参加となります。（次回は是非休日を含めた日程にしていただけるとうれしい）
I attended the first day of Laravel Live Japan 2026.
The event runs for two days, but I could only make it on day one. (I'd love it if next time the schedule included a weekend day!)
肌感で参加者の半数が外国の方で、めちゃくちゃグローバリズム、ダイバーシティな雰囲気がありました。ワタシエイゴデキナイので、色々刺激になりました。英語多めのカンファレンスはScala祭り以来です。
From what I could tell, about half the attendees were from overseas, giving the event an incredibly global and diverse atmosphere. Since I can barely speak English, it was quite a stimulating experience. This was the most English-heavy conference I'd been to since Scala Matsuri.

私の居住地から立川が遠くて若干遅れての参加でした。付いた頃にはちょうどあすみさんが英語でセッションしておりました。
PHPUnitのバージョンアップ、サボってるのでぼちぼちRectorとAIでよしなにアップデートしたい所存
Tachikawa is pretty far from where I live, so I arrived a bit late. By the time I got there, Asumi was already giving her session — in English!
I've been slacking on upgrading PHPUnit, so I'm planning to get around to it soon using Rector and AI to handle the heavy lifting.
機材トラブルからちょっと昼が前倒しになっちゃったんですが、特に一緒にランチに行く人とか約束してなかったのでそのへんのグループに適当に混ぜていただきました。
Due to some equipment trouble, the lunch break got moved up a bit. I hadn't made any lunch plans with anyone, so I just tagged along with a nearby group.

あとから合流したグループがめっちゃグローバルで、隣になったのはカナダからお越しの大学生Geordieでした。
日本語クラブ？に入っていて、日本語でのやり取りができたので私が全然英語できなくても意思疎通できて助かりました。
The group that joined us later was super international, and the person sitting next to me was Geordie, a university student from Canada.
He's in some kind of Japanese language club, so we could communicate in Japanese — a lifesaver since my English is practically non-existent.
カナダでアンパンマンはあんまり知られてないけど、キッチンカーでぬいぐるみが置いてあって知った、というエピソードを聞いたとき 「キッチンカー！？！？カー！？」
という反応をされて、英語ではフードトラックって言うんですね。知らなかったし、確かにキッチンカーって言い方変ですよね。和製英語なのかな？
When he told me that Anpanman isn't well known in Canada but he learned about it from a plushie at a "kitchen car," he reacted with: "Kitchen car?!?! Car?!"
Apparently in English it's called a "food truck." I had no idea — and yeah, "kitchen car" does sound weird when you think about it. I guess it's Japanese-English (wasei-eigo)?

良かったセッション（Sessions I Enjoyed）
Marcel Pociot氏のMaking Music with PHPは会場の音響を活用していてよかったですね。リアルタイムにコードが反映されて音がでるデモもとても良かったです。ちょっとしたDJでした。
「変なもの作っていこう」
みたいなこと言ってて、なんか日本でも海外でもあんまり変わらんな（いい意味）と思った。
Marcel Pociot's "Making Music with PHP" session made great use of the venue's sound system. The live demo where code changes were reflected in real time as sound was awesome — he was like a mini DJ.
He said something along the lines of "Let's build weird stuff," and I thought, developers are the same everywhere — in the best way.
倉貫 義人さんのセッションも興味深くて、AI時代に若者が先輩からどう学ぶか、みたいな話で師弟制度でリモートしてる師匠の近くに物理的に住む、というソリューションが面白かったです。
Yoshihito Kuranuki's session was also fascinating. It was about how younger developers can learn from seniors in the age of AI. The solution he proposed — a mentorship system where the apprentice physically moves to live near their remote mentor — was really interesting.
師匠も、弟子がそこまでコストをかけて来てたら親身になっちゃいそうだし可愛げもでちゃうかもなーと思いつつ、人間関係うまくいかなかったときは辛そうだな、などとどうでもいいことを考えてしまった。
I figured the mentor would naturally become more invested and find the apprentice endearing if they went to such lengths — but then I also couldn't help thinking about how rough it would be if the relationship didn't work out. Random thoughts, I know.
